Halfway between Olbia and Sassari there is a surprising and fascinating place: the rock altar of Santo Stefano. It is located precisely in the countryside of Oschiri, in front of the church of Santo Stefano which gives its name to this suggestive site where you can perceive the sense of spirituality of the peoples who lived there in ancient times. It is a huge granite boulder ten meters long, in which niches with perfect geometric shapes have been created, nine in the upper part and twelve in the lower one, some triangular and others quadrangular and circular. In the vicinity there are eight domus de janas, rocks adapted to niches, a sort of sundial and a hypogean necropolis. It is called an altar but it is still uncertain about the actual function of this stone table, as is its dating which covers a time span ranging from the Neolithic to a post-medieval age.
