Castello Malaspina

Description

The Malaspina Castle, also known as the Serravalle Castle, from the name of the hill overlooking the town of Bosa (medieval historic center that has deserved the recognition of the second most beautiful village in Italy), which it has guarded since 1112, located in the central-western part of the island. Today, only the mighty walls and towers of the original structure remain, but an exceptional view overlooking the River Temo and the beauty of the artistic heritage, preserved inside, make it one of the most evocative castles in Sardinia. Inside, the Palatine Chapel and the ruins of the aristocratic residence also fortified, reserved for the castellans and their family. Leaning against the north walls, it has a rectangular plan with four corner towers. The indications of restoration roughly return the division of the rooms of the building. The Castle had several owners due to its strategic position which favored its passage from the Turritani, to the Malaspina, to the Arborea and finally to the Aragonese. Its decline began only around 1500, when the town of Alghero became increasingly important thanks to the Catalan presence.
