Circoli Li Muri

Description

The Necropolis of Li Muri, also called the “Circolo Tombs” is located in the municipality of Arzachena, in the north east of Sardinia. Fascinating and evocative necropolis is dated around 4200-4000 BC. C. and is the oldest burial site in this area. It is made up of five lithic boxes of which only one is not surrounded by stones fixed vertically in the ground. The boxes have a quadrangular shape and probably welcomed the deceased individually unlike the other necropolises in Sardinia where the burials were collective. The characteristic circular arrangement, which characterizes this necropolis, which according to scholars was only widespread in this area, is made up of tangent circles with fragmented style that delimit the burials externally. An isolated style is placed in a carved stone chest. Numerous ceramics, elements of neck lace in hard stone, artifacts of various kinds have been found. Interesting pebbles with traces of ocher color, which symbolized the resurrection, used to paint the body of the deceased as a sign of good omen.
