Cala Santa Maria

Description

The beach is certainly the most beautiful on the island of Santa Maria (the northernmost of the jewel islands that make up the national park of the Maddalena archipelago, in the extreme north-east of Sardinia), it is made up of very fine, wet white sand from the crystalline and uncontaminated sea, rich in marine fauna. Two hundred meters long, it is the largest beach in the entire archipelago. Its shallow and sandy bottom sloping towards the open sea forms a splendid natural pool. The cove is surrounded by pink-toned rocks covered in Mediterranean green. Behind the bay extends a brackish water lake, the Marsh, habitat of numerous species of water birds: woodcocks, hen, mallards. The beach can be reached by sea and the service is provided by boats departing from La Maddalena and Palau.
