Description

The island of Mal di Ventre is located in the central western part of the Sardinian coast within the marine protected area of the Sinis Peninsula. Originally it was called "malu entu" due to the sudden changes in wind to which this island is subjected, which literally in Sardinian means "bad wind" then probably incorrectly translated into Mal di Ventre. It is a granite rock two and a half kilo meters long and about 20 meters high at its highest point, on which stands the lighthouse that dominates it. This completely uninhabited island houses the signs of an ancient civilization, such as the remains of a Nuraghe, a well for collecting rainwater and some walls, testifying that the island was inhabited as early as 6000 BC. The land is arid but there are some areas where the Mediterranean scrub is present, it is populated by wild rabbits, seagulls, cormorants and terrestrial turtles. On the eastern side there are numerous enchanting coves characterized by medium-coarse sand. Not far from the coast you can see the wrecks of two Roman and Spanish ships as well as a thirty-six meter long Roman boat sunk between 80 and 50 BC with a loaded with 2000 lead ingots.
