Description
The Museum of Mediterranean Masks of Mamoiada, is located in the Barbagia of Ollollai, and is a charming town about fifteen kilo meters from Nuoro, known for its traditional masks, the "Mamuthones and the Issohadores". These costumes are the emblem of the ancient Mamoiadino carnival, with dark masks with marked features carved in wood that wear sheepskin on which they wear thirty kilos of bells ringing at every step (mamuthones), accompanied by men with white masks and red bodices (issoahdores) who capture with the rope passers-by This fascinating exhibition was created with the aim of ideally uniting the culture of the small town in the interior of Sardinia with other Mediterranean regions in a comparison of common traditions and roots.
