Necropoli di Monte 'e Prama

Description

The Necropolis of Monte 'e Prama is located in the territory of Cabras, on the Sinis Peninsula, in south-western Sardinia. The site was discovered in a completely random way during the plowing of the fields in 1974 when the first fragments of sculptures were found. Since then, over the years there have been periods in which excavations have been concentrated more in this area rich in evidence of the Nuragic age and seventy tombs and the wonderful Giants of Monte 'e Prama have been unearthed. They are fascinating nuragic sculptures two and a half meters high, made of chalky sandstone and depicting young archers, swordsmen and wrestlers. At one time these statues were lined up to protect the necropolis and then they were buried in the hill probably following historical, political or environmental upheavals.
