Spiaggia di Cala d'Arena

Description

The splendid Cala d’Arena beach is located in the northernmost part of the Asinara Island and is part of the island's National Park, in the municipality of Porto Torres. A small road leads to the north-east end, where the beach stretches, formed by two sandy shores, divided in winter by a small stream, opening onto a dream sea. It is dominated by one of the three Spanish towers built on the island in the 16th century. Cala d’Arena beach is also known by the nickname of pink beach because the sand is so clear that in some places it takes on shades of pink. The color of the sea is an intense blue, while the beach is surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. Cala d’Arena is subject to a full protection regime. Until a few decades ago, the Caretta Caretta turtles laid their eggs on this beach and you could also find some examples of Monk Seal. Behind the beach stands a coastal tower built in the sixteenth century, to the north the "Punta Scorno Lighthouse", which marks the northernmost point of Asinara. To visit the island, you must contact the Park Authority, the only manager responsible for the visit.
