The beach of Cala Ostina is located east of Castelsardo, in a small cove along the coast of northern Sardinia, inside the Gulf of Asinara. It is one of the busiest beaches in the area, enclosed by two high promontories that protect it from the currents. The beach has a dark golden color with small smooth pebbles and shells. The real name of the beach is Cala Augustina, with reference to the presence of some Roman settlements dating back to the time of Emperor Augustus, as evidenced by a long stone-paved stretch that connects the bay to Castle sardo; according to another hypothesis, the name derives from what in Sardinia is called "Aligusta", a small lobster.
