Collezione Sironi

Description

The "Mario Sironi" Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari is an institute of high culture for the training of visual arts in Italy. The collection consists of forty-two works by M. Sironi (Sassari 1885- Milan 1961) one of the great protagonists of twentieth-century Italian art. Sironi was a painter of solitude, among gloomy landscapes, suburbs and industrial buildings, men and women represented in the stiffness of the stone. The works on display, almost entirely donated by the companion and universal heir Mimì Costa to the Banco di Sardegna, many of which are unpublished, consist of oils, tempera, mixed techniques, drawings and sculptures made between 1926 and 1958. The great painting Allegory of work, preparatory study of the fresco carried out, with great success, in 1933 for the V Triennale di Milano.
