Description

The Ispinigoli Cave is a marvelous cave appreciated by tourists and speleologists from all over the world located in the center of Sardinia on the slopes of Mount Ospile in Supramonte, a few kilo meters from the town of Dorgali. To get inside the room, which is eighty meters wide, you walk along an equipped path for two hundred and eighty steps. Once inside, a limestone column thirty-eight meters high (among the most impressive in Europe) joins the vault and the base of the cavity. It is a spectacular environment in every detail: from the enormous concretions that stand out from the walls to the small stalagmites, up to the undulating formations. The historical-archaeological interest are the Nuragic, Punic and Roman finds found inside the cave which would testify to its common use as a place of burial and worship. Small human remains were also found, rings, jewels and solar symbols that suggest a Phoenician sacrificial well. Until the mid-twentieth century, the cave was used by shepherds as a shelter for the flock. Near the cave, a hot spring in which you can immerse yourself.
