Description

The Grotta di Is Zuddas is located in Santadi, in south-western Sardinia, in the Sulcis region from which it is six kilo meters away. The cavity develops inside Mount Meana, a massif made up of very ancient Dolomite rocks dating back to five hundred and thirty million years ago. The cave was initially used as a marble quarry, until in 1971 a group of speleologists opened a path inside and made some branches of the cave accessible to tourism. The cave is 1650 meters long and currently five hundred meters can be visited. Despite its small size, this cave offers a unique spectacle. A particularly evocative room is the one known as the "Organ", whose name is due to a column that resembles a pipe organ, inside which a nativity scene is normally set up during the Christmas period.
