Description

Inaugurated in 2004, the Duomo Museum is located in the rooms adjacent to the Cathedral of Santa Maria, in the heart of the Castle. It houses a large part of the Cathedral's Treasury, which includes bequests of successive archbishops in the Church of Cagliari, donations of liturgical objects and numerous silvers such as chalices, pyxes, monstrances, processional crosses, crucifixes, as well as wooden statues and paintings. Among the most important works are: the Retablo dei Beneficiati, a Catalan-type altarpiece with a double triptych; the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, a group of seven statues, dating back to the second half of the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. The Triptych of Clement VII, attributed to the fifteenth-century Flemish painter Rogier van der Weyden.
