Villaggio Santuario Romanzesu

Description

The Romanzesu Sanctuary Village is located in the municipality of Bitti, in the province of Nuoro. It is considered one of the most precious legacies of the Nuragic civilization. Discovered in 1919, it stands on a granite plateau of Sa Serra, about thirteen kilo meters from Bitti. The village includes: the Sacred Well, a hundred huts with a circular and ovoid plan, five of which are large, known as "meetings" due to the presence of a perimeter seat, and in two cases with a central hearth; three Temples, two of which have a rectangular plan, called “megaron”, an elliptical stepped amphitheater and a large labyrinthine structure (perhaps the Sorcerer's Priest's Hut). The toponym Romanzesu derives from the presence of Roman remains dating back to the II-III century AD.
